Our Magazine

Subtropics seeks to publish the best literary fiction, essays, translations, and poetry being written today, both by established and emerging authors. Writers who have contributed to Subtropics include John Barth, Harold Bloom, Anne Carson, Billy Collins, Lauren Groff, Allan Gurganus, Matthea Harvey, Lawrence Joseph, Deborah Levy, Gwyneth Lewis, Jamie McKendrick, Nathaniel Mackey, China Miéville, Rebecca Miller, Sinéad Morrissey, Les Murray, Edna O’Brien, Chinelo Okparanta, Thomas Pierce, Maggie Shipstead, A. E. Stallings, Paul Theroux, Weike Wang, Christian Wiman, and Charles Wright. Subtropics also publishes, as often as possible, works in translation and important works that have lapsed out of print.

The staff of Subtropics is David Leavitt, editor; Mark Mitchell, managing editor and nonfiction editor; and Ange Mlinko, poetry editor. MFAs may work on the magazine as editorial assistants, for credit, or as readers.
